Special Weather Statement: Gusty Showers and Landspout Threat in Eastern Alachua, Marion, and Western Putnam

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Eastern Alachua, Eastern Marion, Western Putnam, and Central Marion counties, effective until 4:30 PM EDT today, October 9, 2026. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville, FL, reports that radar is tracking gusty showers capable of producing a landspout.

At 3:59 PM EDT, a landspout was detected near Lake Delancy, approximately 8 miles northeast of Fort McCoy, moving north at 20 mph. Hazards include landspouts and wind gusts around 40 mph.

Impacts could include minor damage to outdoor objects. Gusty winds may knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations that may be impacted include Interlachen, Fort McCoy, Hawthorne, Lake Delancy, Orange Springs, Hollister, Hog Valley, Johnson, and Mannville.

Residents outdoors in these areas should seek shelter inside a building immediately. Torrential rainfall is also expected with this storm, potentially leading to localized flooding. Do not drive through flooded roadways.
