Strong Thunderstorm Threatens Hillsborough, Manatee Counties

Residents in Coastal Hillsborough, Inland Hillsborough, and Inland Manatee counties should monitor weather conditions closely as a strong thunderstorm is tracking north. The National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL issued a Special Weather Statement today, October 9, 2026, at 3:16 PM EDT, effective until 4:00 PM EDT.

Doppler radar indicates the storm is moving north at 35 mph, with potential wind gusts up to 50 mph. This could result in downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around.

The storm's path includes Fish Hawk, Brandon, Greater Sun Center, Riverview, Palm River-Clair Mel, Wimauma, Boyette, Sun City Center, Lithia Springs State Park, Alafia River State Park, Fort Lonesome, Bloomingdale, Gibsonton, Progress Village, Valrico, and Duette.

The National Weather Service advises monitoring the weather situation closely and being alert for threatening weather conditions. Secure any loose outdoor items.
