Macon-Bibb Commission backs $165,000 grant for Ocmulgee Heritage Trail

The Macon-Bibb County Commission approved a resolution Tuesday supporting NewTown Macon's application for $165,000 in state grant funding to improve the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail.

NewTown Macon will seek the money from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Recreational Trails Program and has committed $45,000 in local matching funds. The grant would pay for improvements near Riverside Cemetery, including a safer pedestrian crossing over railroad property and connections to a planned pedestrian bridge over the Ocmulgee River.

NewTown Macon manages the trail, which runs along the Ocmulgee River through downtown and connects neighborhoods, parks, and historic sites.
