Bass Road Repaving Project Begins in Macon-Bibb
Crews began repaving Bass Road between Providence Boulevard and Zebulon Road on Monday, June 1, working nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for approximately six nights.
The project is part of Macon-Bibb County's Paving the Way program, which launched in summer 2025. Since then, crews have repaved 885 segments across 352 streets, totaling 119.8 miles. Another 62.1 miles are bid out for future work. The county previously repaved 7 to 8 miles annually.
"The quality of our roads has been one of the most talked about daily issues people in Macon-Bibb face," Mayor Lester Miller said. "Since we began the Paving the Way program this past summer, people have noticed a marked improvement in their daily commutes."
County officials selected roads through a scan of more than 1,100 miles of county-owned paved roads. Each segment received a rating from 1 to 100. Priority went to roads rated 30 and below, arterial and collector roads below 40, connecting roads between 30 and 55, and well-trafficked industrial area roads.
Voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds and state Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant funds pay for the work.
In coming weeks, the county will begin evaluating sidewalk conditions throughout Macon-Bibb using StreetScan technology to create a detailed inventory and assess Americans with Disabilities Act compliance.
