Tropical Storm Warning Issued for George County: Prepare for High Winds
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for George County until 3:00 AM CDT on October 10, bringing potential for 50 mph wind gusts and moderate flooding; residents should secure property and seek shelter.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for George County, including Lucedale, effective immediately as of 6:53 PM CDT on October 9, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. This warning remains in effect until 3:00 AM CDT on October 10.
Residents should plan for hazardous winds of tropical storm force. Peak wind forecasts are between 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. The NWS advises completing all efforts to protect property as soon as possible and moving to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with broken tree limbs and some downed trees. Scattered power and communications outages are possible, and some roads may become impassable due to debris.
While no storm surge inundation is forecast, moderate flooding from heavy rain is a significant concern. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues, with rivers and small streams potentially overflowing their banks. Driving conditions may become hazardous with some road and bridge closures.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For local information, contact George County EMA at 601-947-7557 or visit www.facebook.com/GeorgeCountyMsEmergencyManagement. For additional storm impact information, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
