Rip Current Warning for Lake Erie Beaches: Stay Out of Water Through Wednesday Evening

Beachgoers in Lucas, Ottawa, Erie, Lorain, and Cuyahoga Counties are advised to stay out of Lake Erie waters due to a high risk of rip currents. The National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland OH has issued a Beach Hazards Statement effective immediately, September 22 at 11:02 PM EDT, and remaining in effect until Wednesday, September 23 at 10:00 PM EDT.

The NWS warns that wind and wave action will create strong currents along the lakeshore. These currents pose a significant danger, capable of carrying swimmers away from shore through sandbars and along structures extending into the lake.

For your safety, remain out of the water to avoid these hazardous swimming conditions during this period.
