Dangerous Rip Currents Expected Along Lake Erie Coast Through Early Thursday

Residents and visitors in Lucas, Ottawa, Erie, and Lorain Counties are advised to remain out of Lake Erie waters due to a high risk of dangerous rip currents. The National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland has issued a Beach Hazards Statement effective immediately, September 23 at 9:51 PM EDT, until Thursday, September 24 at 4:00 AM EDT.

The NWS warns that wind and wave action will create strong currents along the lakeshore. These rip currents can carry swimmers away from shore, through sandbars, and along structures extending into the lake, posing a significant risk to anyone entering the water.

To ensure safety, the NWS strongly instructs the public to avoid entering the water during this period of hazardous swimming conditions. Compliance with this directive is crucial to prevent serious injury or drowning.
