A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Lowndes County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 1:00 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the area within the next 36 hours.

Residents should plan for hazardous wind conditions, with peak gusts up to 40 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Secure loose outdoor objects such as porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes to prevent potential damage. Expect scattered power and communication outages, and be aware that some roads may become impassable due to debris. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding. Be prepared for possible evacuations and rescues. Flood waters can enter structures, and roads may become hazardous due to inundation. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The NWS indicates that tornadoes are not expected at this time. This Tropical Storm Warning is effective until October 9, 2026, at 9:00 PM UTC.
