Longboat Key: Veterans' Preference Form VP-3 Explained

Longboat Key residents seeking employment preference as an unremarried widow or widower of a veteran must complete the FDVA form VP-3. This certification is a requirement for veterans' preference in hiring and retention.

Florida Statutes Section 295.07(1)(d) and (1)(e) grant this preference to unremarried widows and widowers of veterans who died from a service-connected disability or in the line of duty under combat-related conditions. The form documents that the applicant has not remarried since the veteran's death.

To complete the Certification of Unremarried Widow or Widower, applicants must detail their marriage to a U.S. Armed Forces member, including the branch of service. They must then certify they have not remarried since their spouse died.

The form, effective June 27, 2016, and incorporated into Rule 55A-7.013 of the Florida Administrative Code, requires signatures from the unremarried widow or widower and a witness. Both signatures include the date, printed name, and address.

Submit this certification and the Veterans’ Preference Certification FDVA form VP-1 to the Human Resources office to finalize the employment preference application.
