Deputy Leppek Saves Child's Life, Receives Lifesaving Award

Longboat Key resident Deputy Dylan Leppek earned the Manatee County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Lifesaving Award for his quick actions in May that saved a young child's life.

Deputy Leppek responded in May to a report of a possible drowning. Callers stated a child had been pulled from a pool, was unresponsive and turning blue, with CPR already in progress.

Upon arrival, Deputy Leppek took over chest compressions from a citizen performing CPR. He continued the lifesaving care with the citizen, who administered rescue breaths, until EMS arrived. After EMS assumed medical care, Deputy Leppek assisted the child's mother while gathering information. The child was airlifted to a local hospital and has since recovered fully.

The MCSO recognized Deputy Leppek's swift response and decisive actions as instrumental in saving the child. His professionalism exemplifies the MCSO's highest standards.

The award was presented at the MCSO's staff awards and recognitions ceremony.
