Residents and visitors planning to be in the Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains and Crazy Mountains this weekend are advised to prepare for severe winter conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Billings, MT, has issued a Winter Storm Warning effective from 6 PM this evening, October 10th, until 12:00 PM MDT on Monday, October 12th.

Periods of heavy snow and blowing snow are expected, with total snow accumulations between 10 and 18 inches, primarily above 8000 feet. Winds are anticipated to gust as high as 35 mph.

These conditions will significantly impact recreation in the high country, and travel into Cooke City will be affected. The NWS strongly advises anyone heading into these mountainous areas to inform someone of their plans before departure. This precaution is critical in case of difficulties or becoming stranded due to the severe winter weather.
