High Wind Warning Issued: Secure Loose Objects Now
A High Wind Warning is in effect from 5 AM to 8 PM today for parts of Arizona and Nevada, with gusts up to 70 mph expected to cause power outages and hazardous travel conditions.
A High Wind Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas NV, effective from 5 AM PDT /5 AM MST/ this morning, October 11, until 8 PM PDT /8 PM MST/ this evening, October 11. Residents in affected areas are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind.
South winds are expected to reach 35 to 45 mph with gusts of 60 to 70 mph. The affected areas include the Northwest Plateau, Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, Lake Mead (AZ side), Lake Mohave (AZ side), Hualapai Mountains, Northwest Deserts, San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado River Valley, Northeast Clark County, Sheep Range, Spring Mountains-Red Rock Canyon, Southern Clark County, Lake Mead (NV side), and Lake Mohave (NV side.
These damaging winds are expected to blow down trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Additionally, dangerous boating conditions are anticipated for all watercraft on area lakes, including Lake Mead, Lake Mohave, and Lake Havasu.
