Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Southern Liberty; Immediate Action Urged
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Southern Liberty County, including Central City and Apalachicola National Forest, with immediate action urged due to potential hazardous winds, major flooding, and tornadoes.
SOUTHERN LIBERTY COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Southern Liberty County, effective immediately from October 9 at 5:17 AM EDT. This warning includes Central City and the Apalachicola National Forest. Residents are urged to complete all preparations now as hazardous conditions are expected.
Wind speeds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are forecast, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to property, including porches, awnings, and carports, is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway, and all preparations must be completed before winds become hazardous. Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated on bridges and elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to major flooding, prompting potential evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The NWS reports a situation favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should seek safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be prepared to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. This warning is set to expire at 1:30 PM UTC today.
