To read the full order, click here. The city manager has issued an Executive Order ahead of Memorial Day weekend for the past 10 years as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance public safety during one of Myrtle Beach’s busiest weekends of the year. The Executive Order authorizes the Myrtle Beach Police Department to prohibit all golf carts, except law enforcement golf carts, south of 29th Avenue North along Ocean Boulevard. The restriction will be in effect beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, May 22, and remain in place until traffic control devices are removed along Ocean Boulevard on Monday, May 25. The Executive Order also declares Memorial Day weekend in Myrtle Beach an Extraordinary Event, giving the Chief of Police the authority to take additional actions in the interest of public safety, when necessary. Those actions are to: Request assistance from federal, state and other local governments. Hire additional law enforcement officers and event staff personnel. Resolve questions of authority and responsibility of such personnel. Require businesses in designated areas to employ private security officers. Utilize public or private property when there is a compelling necessity for the protection of lives, health and welfare. Temporarily divert pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Establish and enforce no cruising zones and a temporary cruising prohibition. Adjust park hours as necessary to enforce the peace and to protect our residents and guests.
