Storm Surge Watch Canceled for Coastal Levy; Flooding Rains Expected
Coastal Levy is no longer under a Storm Surge Watch as Hurricane Isaias made landfall, but residents should prepare for potential storm surge of 1 to 3 feet and dangerous rainfall flooding, especially in Levy County, through early Saturday morning.
Coastal Levy residents no longer under a Storm Surge Watch as Hurricane Isaias makes landfall near Destin, Florida. However, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tampa Bay Ruskin FL warns of potential storm surge of 1 to 3 feet along the coast from the Suwannee River to Bonita Beach through early Saturday morning. Additionally, dangerous rainfall flooding is anticipated across west central Florida, with the greatest threat in Levy County.
Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, around 8:30 PM. While tropical storm force winds are not a concern for the local area, residents should prepare for potential limited storm surge impacts, including localized inundation mainly along immediate shorelines and in low-lying spots. Sections of near-shore roads and parking lots may become overspread with surge water, making driving dangerous.
Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues, and rivers and tributaries could become swollen. Flood waters may enter some structures. Residents in low-lying areas or near already swollen rivers should plan to move to safe shelter on higher ground. Always follow the advice of local officials.
This will be the last local statement issued by the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay Ruskin FL regarding the effects of tropical cyclone hazards upon the area. For ongoing updates, monitor weather.gov, NOAA Weather Radio, and local news outlets. Additional preparedness information can be found at ready.gov, getagameplan.org, and redcross.org.
