A Wind Advisory is in effect for Bell, Harlan, and Letcher Counties from noon Saturday, October 10th, until 5 AM EDT Sunday, October 11th, with gusts up to 50 mph expected, impacting driving and potentially causing power outages.
Residents in Bell, Harlan, and Letcher Counties are advised to use extra caution due to a Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jackson KY. The advisory is effective from noon Saturday, October 10th, until 5 AM EDT Sunday, October 11th.
Southeast winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 35 to 50 mph are expected, particularly over higher terrain above 1,500 feet and in valleys immediately northwest of the Pine, Black, Cumberland, and Log Mountains. Communities at greatest risk for the strongest wind gusts include Cumberland, Eolia, Chenoa, Frakes, and Mayking. Areas further removed from these mountains can expect southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph with occasional gusts of 20 to 35 mph.
The NWS warns that gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs and weakly rooted trees in steep terrain could be blown down, potentially leading to a few power outages. Driving may be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. The NWS advises all drivers to use extra caution during this period.
