A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Leon County, including Tallahassee, Woodville, and Bradfordville, with residents urged to prepare immediately for hazardous winds, major flooding, and the potential for multiple tornadoes.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Leon County, including Tallahassee, Woodville, and Bradfordville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective October 9 at 11:05 AM EDT. Residents are urged to finalize preparations immediately as hazardous conditions are expected to develop.
Wind speeds are forecasted at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor structures and trees is possible, and scattered power outages may occur. Efforts to secure property should be underway now.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain, and locally higher amounts, anticipated. This poses a major flooding threat with potential for evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and roads could become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The NWS reports a very favorable situation for tornadoes, with the potential for many, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
There is little to no storm surge flooding expected. The warning is set to expire on October 9 at 7:15 PM UTC. For more information, visit weather.gov/tallahassee, floridadisaster.org, or leoncountyfl.gov/ei.
