A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Leesburg, effective from Saturday, October 8, at 5:22 PM EDT until Sunday, October 9, at 1:30 AM UTC. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL, urges residents to complete preparations immediately.

The watch indicates potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Expect peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Potential impacts include damage to lightweight structures, downed tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible on elevated roadways.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. The NWS forecasts 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, leading to potential moderate flooding. Emergency plans should account for possible evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

The situation is favorable for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter now. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued. Significant impacts from tornadoes could include widespread damage and power loss.
