LEESBURG, GA – October 8, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Leesburg, effective tonight, October 8, 2026, at 11:05 PM EDT, expiring tomorrow, October 9, 2026, at 7:15 AM EDT. Residents should act now to complete preparations for hazardous wind, potential flooding, and tornadoes.
Peak wind forecasts are 15-25 mph with gusts to 35 mph, with potential for wind up to 39-57 mph. Damage to property, including porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, is possible. Expect many large tree limbs to break and scattered power outages. Complete efforts to protect property immediately.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Moderate rainfall flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell, and floodwaters may enter some structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
Conditions are favorable for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some possibly intense. These can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.
