Lee County is now under a Tropical Storm Watch, issued by the National Weather Service Tallahassee FL today, October 8, at 11:06 AM EDT. This means tropical storm-force winds are possible in the Leesburg area within the next 48 hours.

Residents should immediately begin preparations for hazardous winds, potential moderate flooding, and the possibility of several tornadoes. The wind threat has increased, with peak gusts up to 35 mph expected. Limited damage to property like porches and sheds is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Complete preparations now before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Up to 3 inches of rain is forecast, with potential for localized higher amounts, which could lead to moderate flooding, evacuations, and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The situation is also favorable for tornadoes. Emergency plans should include the potential for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued.

This Tropical Storm Watch is effective immediately and expires at 7:15 PM UTC today. For the latest updates, visit weather.gov/tallahassee and ready.ga.gov.
