Cape Coral Police arrested a Fort Myers man early Wednesday morning, October 7, after he allegedly smashed a glass panel near a front door and tried to enter an occupied home. The incident occurred around 2:08 a.m. in the 2400 block of SW 39th Street.

Responding officers found Alex Dones, 19, standing on the front lawn and yelling aggressively. Police detained Dones while they investigated.

According to a police report, Dones struck the home's front door and an adjacent glass sidelight until it shattered. He then pushed his upper body through the opening. The homeowner, who had armed himself, warned Dones he would shoot. Dones then fled and allegedly struck the garage door, entered the enclosed rear lanai, and pounded on the sliding glass doors leading into the living room.

Officers observed broken glass throughout the entryway and found blood evidence on the front door frame and the rear sliding doors. Damage to the residence is estimated at $5,000.

Police transported Dones to the Lee County Jail. He faces charges including burglary of an occupied dwelling, criminal mischief (damage of $1,000 or greater), and resisting an officer without violence. Dones tensed his body and refused to cooperate when officers attempted to place him in a patrol vehicle. He was secured without further incident.
