Residents in Central Cherokee County and East Central Plymouth County, Iowa, should immediately seek shelter indoors due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, SD.

The warning is in effect from 1:02 AM CDT until 1:45 AM CDT today, October 9. A severe thunderstorm, located near Marcus and moving east at 25 mph, is producing golf ball-sized hail, as reported by the public. This hail poses a risk of injury to people and animals outdoors, and potential damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles.

The storm is expected to impact Marcus around 1:10 AM CDT, Cleghorn around 1:20 AM CDT, and Cherokee around 1:35 AM CDT. Other areas affected include Meriden and Larrabee.

Anyone outdoors should move to shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. Report severe weather to your nearest law enforcement agency or the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls, SD.
