Fayette County Safe Digging Month: Call 811 Before Excavating

Staff Writer
May 15, 2026

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners declared April 2026 Safe Digging Month during its April 9 meeting, urging residents and contractors to call 811 before excavating.

Thousands of incidents damage underground utilities across Georgia each year when people dig without locating lines first. These accidents interrupt service, harm the environment, damage property, and endanger public safety.

Calling 811 at least three days before digging is free and prevents damage to vital infrastructure. The service takes minutes and protects electrical, gas, water, and telecommunications lines.
