Tyrone Safe Digging Month: Call 811 Before You Dig
The Town of Tyrone issued a Safe Digging Month proclamation on March 26, urging residents to contact 811 before digging to protect underground utilities.
Damaged buried utilities cost approximately $30 billion nationwide annually, with most incidents caused by people who fail to call 811 first. Georgia 811 provides free utility location services statewide through its "Call Before You Dig" system. Residents can dial 811 or 1-800-282-7411.
Members of the Fayette County Utility Coordination Committee attended the proclamation presentation, including Dee Baker, town clerk; Matt Bergen, utility manager for Fayette County Emergency Management and UCC vice chairman; Richard Brooks, project manager for Fayette County Emergency Management and UCC chairman; Steve Hoffman, Fayette County road department director; Scott Langford, town engineer; and Jake Canter, environmental specialist.
