Residents in Laurens and Ora should prepare to take immediate action if a tornado is sighted or a Tornado Warning is issued. The National Weather Service (NWS) Greenville-Spartanburg SC has issued a Special Weather Statement for Laurens County, effective until 10:15 PM EDT tonight, October 10.

At 9:42 PM EDT, Doppler radar detected a heavy rain shower near Laurens, moving north at 25 mph. This shower is capable of producing very heavy rainfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour in Laurens and Ora.

Doppler radar also indicates weak rotation within this shower. While not a Tornado Warning, the NWS states that the spin-up of a very brief, weak tornado cannot be ruled out. Remain vigilant and be ready to seek shelter immediately if a tornado is observed or if a Tornado Warning is issued for your area.
