Strong Thunderstorm Warning for Spartanburg Area: High Winds, Hail Expected

A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Greenville-Spartanburg SC for portions of the Upstate, effective immediately until 12:45 AM EDT on September 22, 2026. Residents in Laurens, Central Greenville, Southern Greenville, Northern Spartanburg, and Southern Spartanburg counties should be aware of a strong thunderstorm impacting the area.

As of 12:03 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicates a strong thunderstorm near Spartanburg, moving southwest at 20 mph. The primary hazards associated with this storm are wind gusts up to 40 mph and half-inch hail. These conditions could lead to gusty winds that may knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is also possible.

Locations that may be impacted include Spartanburg, Greer, Five Forks, Boiling Springs SC, Woodruff, Duncan, Lyman, Wellford, Roebuck, and Reidville.

The NWS also warns that torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. Residents are advised not to drive their vehicles through flooded roadways. Stay informed and take necessary precautions during this time.
