Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Dona Ana, Otero, El Paso Counties Until 4:15 PM MDT
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for parts of Dona Ana, Otero, and El Paso counties until 4:15 PM MDT today, September 29, with 60 mph wind gusts and potential for flash flooding and tornadoes.
Residents in southeastern Dona Ana County, southwestern Otero County, New Mexico, and northwestern El Paso County, Texas, are urged to seek immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 4:15 PM MDT today, September 29.
The National Weather Service in El Paso issued the warning after radar indicated a severe thunderstorm located over Berino, New Mexico, moving north at 20 mph at 3:33 PM MDT. This storm is capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts. Impact from these winds could include damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Affected areas include Chaparral, Anthony, Vado, Anthony Gap, and Berino. This warning also covers portions of Interstate 10 in New Mexico between mile markers 150 and 164, and in Texas between mile markers 1 and 3.
Remain alert for a possible tornado. If a tornado is spotted, immediately go to a basement or a small, central room in a sturdy structure. For protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, which may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive through flooded roadways.
