Residents in portions of south central New Mexico and southwest Texas are advised to secure outdoor objects and use extra caution when driving due to a Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM.

The advisory is in effect from 3:00 PM MDT today, September 29, until 12:00 AM MDT tonight, September 30. Southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected.

Affected areas include: West Slopes Sacramento Mountains Below 7500 Feet, Sacramento Mountains Above 7500 Feet, East Slopes Sacramento Mountains Below 7500 Feet, Otero Mesa, West Central Tularosa Basin/White Sands, East Central Tularosa Basin/Alamogordo, Southeast Tularosa Basin, Western El Paso County, Eastern/Central El Paso County, Northern Hudspeth Highlands/Hueco Mountains, Salt Basin, Southern Hudspeth Highlands, Rio Grande Valley of Eastern El Paso/Western Hudspeth Counties, and Rio Grande Valley of Eastern Hudspeth County.

Gusty winds can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Tree limbs may be blown down, and isolated power outages are possible. The NWS advises securing any unsecured outdoor objects.
