Special Weather Statement: Landspout Possible Near Alamota

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Lane and Ness counties due to a strong thunderstorm near Alamota capable of producing a landspout, effective until 7:45 PM CDT; seek shelter indoors if outside.

Residents in Lane and Ness counties, particularly near Alamota, should be aware of a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Dodge City, KS. A strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout was detected by Doppler radar at 6:56 PM CDT, moving northeast at 20 mph.

A landspout is a rotating column of air that can cause minor damage to outdoor objects. Gusty winds associated with this storm could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. The NWS indicates this strong thunderstorm is expected to be near Alamota around 7:00 PM CDT.

This Special Weather Statement is effective until 7:45 PM CDT on September 30, 2026. If you are outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building for your safety.
