A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Lamar County, including Sulligent and Vernon, by the National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, effective October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. This alert is severe and requires immediate action.

Residents should plan for hazardous winds of 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts potentially reaching 50 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous. Limited impacts are expected, including potential damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as broken large tree limbs and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges are also possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Expect 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, leading to potential moderate flooding. Evacuations and rescues are possible. Consider protective actions if you are in a flood-prone area and heed all flood watches and warnings. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Driving conditions will be hazardous, with potential road closures.
