A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Lamar County, including Sulligent and Vernon, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 9, 2026, at 6:57 PM CDT. This warning is set to expire on October 10, 2026, at 3:00 AM UTC.
Residents should prepare for hazardous winds of 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, and a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway now, and all preparations must be completed before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. NWS forecasts 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, leading to potential moderate flooding. Evacuations and rescues are possible. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately. Flood waters can enter structures, and roads may become impassable. Driving conditions will be hazardous.
