Enjoy the Forest Responsibly: Hammock Hanging Tips

"Hammock Hang Time Taking it easy in a hammock is a great way to enjoy the forest. But it's important to choose your trees carefully and use proper hanging techniques to avoid harming them. Choose your trees well. Select trees that are at least 12 inches in diameter. This will help ensure the trees are strong enough to support your weight and won't be damaged by the hammock straps. Use wide straps. Straps should be at least 2 inches wide to distribute the weight evenly and prevent them from cutting into the bark. Avoid using rope or cord, which can girdle the tree and eventually kill it. Hang your hammock responsibly. Don't hang your hammock too tightly, as this can put stress on the trees. Make sure the straps are not rubbing against the bark, and adjust them as needed. Give trees a break by moving your hammock every few days. Take your straps with you. When you leave, be sure to take your straps with you. This will prevent them from becoming entangled in the trees or left behind as litter."
