Polk County $4.7M Housing Program Opens July 1

Polk County will begin accepting applications July 1 for $4.7 million in state housing assistance funds. The State Housing Initiatives Partnership program will help residents buy homes, repair properties, and rebuild structures that fail safety standards.
The program targets homeowners and prospective buyers meeting income requirements. Polk County Housing and Neighborhood Development will fund an estimated 72 projects through June 30, 2027, or until funds deplete.
Thirty households will receive down payment and closing cost assistance totaling $1.2 million. Another 32 owner-occupied homes will receive rehabilitation grants of $802,617. Eight properties will be demolished and reconstructed with $1.5 million. Two additional projects will support new construction or redevelopment of single-family homes for income-eligible buyers, with $500,000 allocated. The county reserved $200,000 for foreclosure prevention assistance and $466,957 for program administration.
At least 20 percent of funding will serve special needs households, with priority given to residents with developmental disabilities requiring home modifications to maintain independent living.
Residents can contact Polk County Housing and Neighborhood Development at (863) 534-5240 or email [email protected] for application information and eligibility requirements. Applications remain open through June 30, 2027. Staff recommend applying early, as funds are distributed on a first-come basis.
