Lake County Measles Cases Rise: Get Vaccinated Now
Lake County Public Health officials are urging residents to update their immunizations as measles cases increase across California and the nation. The MMR vaccine provides protection against measles and related serious illness.
Most measles cases stem from international travel. Public Health recommends families ensure vaccinations are current before traveling abroad.
Walk-in vaccine clinics operate every Wednesday. Lake County also offers seasonal flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinics throughout fall and winter. Residents can register online through MyTurn or walk in without an appointment.
For COVID-19 vaccine information and locations, visit the COVID-19 Vaccines page. For other questions, contact Lake County Public Health at (707) 263-1090.
California law requires certain immunizations for children attending public and private schools, child care centers, and developmental centers. Schools with low vaccination rates face increased risk for outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. Information on required immunizations is available through Shots for School.
Children under 18 without health insurance or with coverage that doesn't include immunizations may qualify for low-cost vaccines if they are eligible for Medi-Cal, the Child Health and Disability Prevention Program, Gateway, or if they are Alaska Native or American Indian. Others seeking immunizations should call (707) 263-1090 for referrals to private providers.
California law eliminates personal belief exemptions for vaccines required for school or child care entry. Only California-licensed physicians can issue medical exemptions through the California Immunization Registry website (CAIR-ME).
