Peoples Gas Seeks Utility Technician in North Miami

Peoples Gas System is seeking to fill a Utility Technician position based in North Miami, Florida. The role requires an 8-hour shift over a 5-day work week.

The Utility Technician will perform duties related to the operation, service, and location of natural gas pipelines. This includes installing and maintaining gas distribution systems, as well as residential, commercial, and industrial metering equipment.

Key responsibilities include reading meters and instruments, turning gas service on and off for various customer types, and converting appliances. Technicians will also set and change meters and regulators, investigate high-bill complaints, and fabricate and join gas piping. The role demands the ability to install and maintain pipe according to standards and operate equipment such as boring equipment, hydraulic tools, and backhoes. Locating underground natural gas systems, performing compliance inspections for cathodic protection and corrosion, and responding to leaks and emergency situations are also part of the job.

Candidates need a High School Diploma or GED and one to two years of experience performing similar duties or three to four years of natural gas operations experience. Proficiency in all functions of an Apprentice Utility Technician, basic map reading, computer operation, and the use of power tools and communication devices are required. Candidates must perform basic math functions, demonstrate sound judgment, and communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
