St. Augustine's Solid Waste Department continues to provide weekly pickup for household trash, yard waste, and recycling, a service vital to maintaining the city's cleanliness. Residents should familiarize themselves with the specific guidelines and schedules to ensure proper collection.
The city issues each single-family home a 65-gallon brown cart for household trash and wet waste. Residents must place these carts at the curb after 7 p.m. the night before their scheduled pickup day, but no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. Carts must be removed from the curb by 7 p.m. after service completion.
Recycling services operate on a single-stream system, meaning residents can place various accepted recyclable items together in a 65-gallon green cart. Accepted materials include paper, aluminum and steel cans, flattened cardboard, milk and juice cartons, plastic bottles and containers, and tin. Residents must empty and rinse all containers before placing them in the cart to prevent contamination.
Yard waste collection also occurs weekly. Residents can place small branches and brush under 4 yards at the curb for pickup. For larger waste disposal needs, free drop-off locations are available at 601 Riberia Street, near the Las Palmas condos on San Marco, and by the soccer field behind RB Hunt Elementary School on Red Cox Road.
Pickup schedules vary by location: residents north of King Street have trash pickup on Monday, yard debris on Wednesday, and recycling on Thursday. Those south of King Street and on Anastasia Island receive trash pickup on Tuesday, yard debris on Wednesday, and recycling on Friday. Adhering to these schedules helps the Solid Waste Department efficiently manage residential waste across the city.
