Rip Current Statement Issued for Coastal Islands Through Friday Evening
A Rip Current Statement has been issued by the NWS for Aransas, Kleberg, Nueces, and Calhoun Islands counties, effective from Thursday morning through Friday evening, with dangerous rip currents expected.
Residents and visitors in the Aransas Islands, Kleberg Islands, Nueces Islands, and Calhoun Islands counties should exercise extreme caution due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Corpus Christi TX. Dangerous rip currents are expected from 7 AM CDT this morning, October 8th, through Friday evening, October 9th.
These rip currents pose a significant risk, capable of sweeping even experienced swimmers away from the shore into deeper water, creating life-threatening conditions for anyone entering the surf. Additionally, the NWS advises of the potential for minor coastal flooding, particularly on Friday.
If you plan to enter the water, swim near a lifeguard. Should you be caught in a rip current, the NWS advises to relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If you are unable to escape the current, face the shore and call or wave for help.
