Key Biscayne Shores Brace for Continued Heavy Sargassum Influx; June Removals Double Last Year's

Key Biscayne's shoreline continues to experience significant sargassum accumulation. The Village removed approximately 1,180 cubic yards of sargassum from its beaches in June, equivalent to 59 truckloads. This amount more than doubled the sargassum removed during June of last year.

Officials anticipate even greater accumulations for July, based on current conditions. The Village maintains daily cleanup efforts to keep the shorelines as clean, safe, and accessible as possible. Sargassum is a natural, recurring coastal phenomenon, so beach conditions will fluctuate daily despite these ongoing efforts.

Residents should take precautions when visiting the beach. Avoid walking through large piles of sargassum, which may conceal debris or marine life. Wear shoes when walking near the waterline during periods of heavy accumulation. Always supervise children closely near the shoreline and changing surf conditions.
