Ukrainian President Replaces Commander-in-Chief

KYIV, Ukraine — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi as the new commander-in-chief of the country's armed forces on Thursday. Syrskyi replaces General Valerii Zaluzhny.

The leadership change occurred after public demonstrations took place, with participants calling for Syrskyi’s resignation. Zaluzhny had held the position of commander-in-chief.

President Zelenskyy announced the replacement as part of a restructuring in the military command. This marks a significant shift in the leadership of Ukraine's defense operations.
