Successful Recycle Drive and Chemical Disposal Event

Key Biscayne residents recently demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental stewardship during a successful Electronics Recycling, Shredding, and Chemical Clean-up event. Community participation led to the proper collection and recycling of significant amounts of waste, protecting local soil and waterways.

The event saw the collection of 5,772 pounds of electronic waste. This material, spread across 11 pallets, included common household items such as monitors, televisions, computers, printers, phones, and various household appliances. Proper recycling of these electronics prevents harmful substances like lead, mercury, and other hazardous components from contaminating the environment and posing risks to public health.

Miami-Dade County played a crucial role in the safe collection and disposal of 8,013 pounds of household chemicals. This included paints, pesticides, and other hazardous products. The county's support ensured these materials received environmentally responsible handling, preventing their harmful impact.

Organizers expressed gratitude to all residents who participated, highlighting that these collective efforts contribute significantly to protecting the community. Safe recycling and hazardous material disposal remain vital for maintaining Key Biscayne's environmental integrity.
