A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Kemper County by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:31 PM CDT. The warning is set to expire on October 10 at 6:45 AM UTC.

Residents should act now to complete preparations for hazardous winds, which are forecast to reach 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property, such as securing lightweight objects, should be underway. Impacts could include damage to porches, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible on bridges and elevated roadways.

Moderate flooding rain is also anticipated, with additional rainfall of around 1 inch expected. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Rivers and tributaries may quickly swell, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings issued by the NWS. Driving conditions will become hazardous, and some road and bridge closures are possible.

The NWS indicates that the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected at this time.
