Residents in Sweetwater, Natrona, and Fremont Counties are advised that the National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Red Flag Warning, effective from noon today, October 4, until 6 PM MDT on Monday, October 5.

This warning indicates critical fire weather conditions are occurring or are expected to develop shortly. The affected areas include Sweetwater County/Rock Springs BLM/Flaming Gorge NRA, Natrona County/Casper BLM, Granite/Green/Ferris/Rattlesnake Mountains, and Casper Mountain.

Forecasted conditions include west winds at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 to 35 mph, relative humidity as low as 10 percent, and high temperatures in the low to mid-80s. These factors create a high risk for erratic fire behavior.

A Red Flag Warning means that a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. The Fire Weather Watch previously in effect is no longer active.
