Culvert repairs to begin on Boulder Lake Road

Culvert repairs to begin on Boulder Lake Road October 1, 2026 BOULDER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation, in cooperation with Sublette County maintenance crews, will temporarily close the approach to Boulder Lake Road (County Road 210) at the intersection of Wyoming State Highway 353 on the morning of Monday, Oct. 5. The scheduled closure will begin at 9 a.m. and is expected to last until approximately noon. During this three-hour window, crews will be replacing a deteriorated culvert that has begun to compromise the stability of the surrounding roadway and approach. Maintenance teams scheduled the repair for this fall to take advantage of seasonal low water levels in the local irrigation canal, ensuring a more efficient and safer operations environment. Impact on Local Traffic: No Access: Local motorists will be unable to access the Boulder Lake recreation area or the Boulder Lake estates from WYO 353 while the work is underway. Advisory: WYDOT strongly recommends that residents and recreational visitors plan their travel itineraries accordingly to avoid delays during the temporary closure window. Crews will work to complete the replacement as quickly as possible and appreciate the public's patience as these necessary infrastructure improvements are made

First Wyoming NEVI RFP now live

STATEWIDE – For the first time, the Wyoming Department of Transportation is seeking Requests for Proposals for its National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program funding allocation. The RFP is open until 11 a.m. Nov. 18 and can be accessed here: https://www.publicpurchase.com/gems/bid/bidView?bidId=216241 Applicants can select from a variety of eligible location “clusters” around the state, including urban areas and rural roadway corridors between urban areas; nearly all areas within Wyoming may participate. While NEVI guidelines no longer require charging stations to be spaced a maximum of 50 miles apart, Wyoming NEVI station locations will be limited to a 3-mile driving distance from one of the corridor exits within each corridor cluster. “Tourism is one of Wyoming’s big three economic industries, and we think these strategic clusters will help alleviate EV driver range anxiety in rural areas,” said WYDOT Chief Engineer Keith Fulton. WYDOT received full build-out status from the Federal Highway Administration in its most recent NEVI Plan and is no longer required to include interstate highways in NEVI location considerations. However, WYDOT recognized potential gaps and did include the interstates in the RFP clusters. The RFP also allows for upgrading existing stations as an eligible project type. Each NEVI station must have at least four charging ports, and WYDOT is asking for at least two Level 3 fast charging ports at each location. Station owners will be responsible for the 20 percent matching cost, while federal NEVI funding will cover the remaining 80 percent. WYDOT will not own, operate or maintain EV Charging infrastructure; this federal funding will pass through WYDOT as a grant for private industry to continue building EV charging infrastructure in Wyoming. The RFP specifies these charging stations cannot be located within the state right-of-way. This RFP meets the goals and plans outlined in WYDOT’s most recent NEVI Plan, which was approved by the Federal Highway Administration in fall of 2025. About the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program: Passed by Congress in 2021, the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program is a federal formula program with participation from all 50 states. Wyoming’s portion of the formula totals to about $26.8 million in federal funding, which the state is issuing as grants for EV fast chargers.

WYDOT will begin work on milling and paving in Snake River Canyon Monday

HOBACK JUNCTION, Wyo. – The Wyoming Department of Transportation and contract crews from H-K Contractors will be milling and paving sections of US 89 in the Snake River Canyon beginning the morning of Monday, Sept. 28th. Work will take place at various locations from mile marker 120 to 139 on US 89 near Hoback Junction. Traffic control will be in place Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. During that time, traffic will be carried through the work area at reduced speeds using flaggers and pilot cars. Drivers are advised to obey all traffic control signs and plan accordingly for delays that will occur in the work zones. Delays could last 10 to 20 minutes at a time. WYDOT encourages drivers to slow down, increase their following distance and be aware of roadside workers. Drivers who are approaching the work zone from an adjacent connecting road are advised to stop and wait for the pilot car. Once the queue of cars following the pilot car has passed in the direction the driver wishes to travel, the driver is then able to turn out and follow the queue through the work zone. The work is scheduled to last roughly three weeks but will be subject to change and weather dependent. WYDOT is committed to providing the public with updated information as work progresses.

Schedule changes on US 16/20/Wyoming 789 highway improvement project between Worland and Manderson

WORLAND, Wyo – The prime contractor for highway improvements on US Highway 16/20/789, including sidewalk and Americans with Disabilities Act repairs in Worland, has adjusted its work schedule for the 2026-27 project. Prime contractor is McGarvin-Moberly Construction Co., of Worland. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2027. "Concrete work has been rescheduled for March 2027," said Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer Kelly Erickson of Thermopolis. "The contractor plans to pave this fall north of the Worland city limits between mileposts 168.82 and 176.69, beginning in mid-October." "Paving will continue as long as fall weather holds," Erickson said. Scope of work on the $6.57 million project includes asphalt milling and an asphalt pavement overlay, chip sealing, ADA improvements, repairing and replacing concrete sidewalk and curb and gutter, and installing a roadway lighting system on 10.9 miles of US 16/20/Wyoming Highway 789. The project's starting point is milepost 165.76, the intersection of U.S. 16 and U.S. 20/Wyoming Highway 789 adjacent to the Washakie County Courthouse in Worland. Erickson said new intersection light poles will be installed next spring at the US 20 intersections of Washakie County Road 10 and County Road 12. Weekly public meetings will resume in the spring at McGarvin-Moberly's office south of Worland, 1001 US Highway 20 North. "We will hold weekly public meetings while concrete work is happening within the Worland city limits, beginning in the spring," said Erickson. Erickson said local contractors are heavily involved in the Worland North project, and the contractors will work with citizens and businesses as much as possible to minimize any traffic delays. The project was originally scheduled to begin July 9. "We appreciate everyone's patience with the delayed start," Erickson said. Project questions may be directed to WYDOT Resident Engineer Kelly Erickson, P.E., at (307) 431-2281. Wyoming airports generate $3.5 Billion in annual economic impact

STATEWIDE – The Wyoming Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division has released the 2026 Statewide Aviation Economic Impact Study, highlighting the significant role Wyoming public airports play in supporting the state’s economy, local communities and overall quality of life. Of Wyoming's 40 publicly owned, public-use airports, the study examined the 34 paved commercial service and general aviation airports, showing how each contributes to commerce, transportation, tourism and economic activity across the state. The study found that Wyoming airports generate approximately $1.9 billion in direct annual economic activity, support 13,306 direct jobs, and help bring approximately 717,000 business and recreational visitors to Wyoming each year through commercial airline services and general aviation. The economic benefits of aviation extend well beyond airport property. Airport businesses purchase goods and services from other Wyoming businesses, employees spend their earnings in local communities, and suppliers hire workers and purchase materials to support aviation-related activity. These dollars circulate through Wyoming’s economy generating additional jobs, payroll and spending. These secondary effects are known as indirect and induced impacts. Combined with direct impacts, they make up the total economic impact of Wyoming's airport system. In total, Wyoming's airports support an estimated 21,683 jobs and $3.5 billion in annual economic impact, consisting of $1.4 billion in payroll and $2.1 billion in spending. “This study demonstrates just how important Wyoming’s airports are to the economic vitality of our communities and our state,” WYDOT Aeronautics Administrator Shawn Burke said. “From supporting local businesses and jobs to connecting residents, visitors and industries, aviation is an essential part of Wyoming’s transportation system. We are proud of the work happening across the state to strengthen and improve aviation in Wyoming.” The study evaluated five categories of economic activity at each airport: general aviation visitor spending, commercial aviation visitor spending, capital investment, airport business tenants and airport management. The Statewide Aviation Economic Impact Study can be found on the WYDOT Aeronautics webpage: https://www.dot.state.wy.us/home/aeronautics.html -30- For information about this news release, contact WYDOT Senior Aviation Planner Casi Crites at 307-287-6011
