A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Jefferson County, effective immediately as of 2:09 PM EDT today, October 7th. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee, FL, warns of a potential for 3-5 feet of life-threatening storm surge inundation above ground in surge-prone areas. The window of concern for this significant threat is from Friday morning until Saturday morning.

Residents in Coastal Jefferson County should be actively preparing for storm surge flooding. If evacuation orders are issued for your area, you must leave. Failure to heed evacuation orders may result in loss of life. Moderate damage to marinas, docks, boardwalks, and piers is possible, with major beach erosion and strong rip currents.

Additionally, a wind threat includes potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway to prepare for limited wind damage. Heavy rainfall is also expected, with an additional 3-6 inches possible, leading to potential moderate flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as evacuations and rescues are possible due to swollen rivers and creeks.
