St. Augustine Woman Dies in U.S. 1 Crash, Driver Injured

JACKSONVILLE – A 73-year-old St. Augustine woman died Friday morning after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 1, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. The collision occurred about 11:19 a.m. near Las Calinas Boulevard, north of International Golf Parkway.

Troopers said a 16-year-old boy driving a pickup truck was heading south in the left turn lane of U.S. 1. He attempted to turn left but did not see an oncoming SUV in the left travel lane. The SUV driver, a 38-year-old woman, had two passengers: the 73-year-old woman who died and a 2-year-old boy.

The front of the SUV struck the right side of the pickup truck. The 73-year-old passenger died at a local hospital. The SUV driver suffered serious injuries, and the 2-year-old boy sustained minor injuries. The 16-year-old pickup truck driver was not hurt.

Northbound lanes of U.S. 1 closed for the investigation and reopened just before 5 p.m. Friday.
