Residents across southwest Alabama, northwest Florida, south central Alabama, and inland southeast Mississippi must complete all hurricane preparations immediately. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, issued a Tropical Cyclone Local Statement today, October 8, at 7:01 AM CDT, indicating that Hurricane Isaias is strengthening and is expected to impact the region, with its effects potentially starting within the next 24-48 hours. Hurricane Hunters are currently investigating the storm, which is located about 540 miles south-southwest of Mobile, AL, moving east-northeast at 9 mph with 80 mph winds.

A Storm Surge Warning and Hurricane Warning are in effect for coastal areas including Baldwin, Escambia, Mobile, Okaloosa, and Santa Rosa. Inland areas of these counties also face Hurricane Warnings. Conecuh, Covington, and Escambia counties are under a Hurricane Watch, while Butler, Clarke, Crenshaw, George, Greene, Monroe, Washington, and Wilcox counties are under a Tropical Storm Watch. Life-threatening storm surge, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall of 3 to 7 inches, with isolated amounts up to 10 inches, are anticipated. The NWS also warns of a favorable environment for tornadoes east of the storm's track from Friday through Saturday.

All preparations to protect life and property must be rushed to completion today. If relocating to a safe shelter, leave as early as possible. Remember, 911 Emergency Services may not be able to respond during unsafe conditions. Closely monitor weather.gov, NOAA Weather radio, or local news outlets for official storm information. The next update is expected around 10 AM CDT, or sooner if conditions warrant.
