Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Clarke County, Prepare for Significant Wind Damage

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Clarke County, with dangerous winds up to 73 mph and major flooding expected. Residents should seek shelter and heed flood warnings.

CLARKE COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Clarke County, including Jackson, Thomasville, and Grove Hill, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, issued the warning today, October 9, at 3:55 PM CDT, which remains in effect until October 10 at 12:00 AM UTC. Residents should prepare for dangerous wind conditions and potential major flooding.

Peak wind gusts are expected to reach 50 mph, with the potential for winds between 58 to 73 mph. Significant wind damage is possible, including damage to roofing, siding, mobile homes, and numerous snapped or uprooted trees. Power and communications outages are also anticipated. Residents are advised to move to safe shelter before the wind becomes hazardous.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with additional rainfall of around 1 inch expected. The NWS warns of potential major flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and flood waters may enter structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately.
