Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Clarke County: Prepare for Dangerous Winds
Clarke County is under a Tropical Storm Warning with dangerous winds and major flooding rain expected; residents must secure property and seek shelter immediately.
Clarke County residents are under a Tropical Storm Warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL, on October 9 at 10:13 PM CDT. The warning affects Jackson, Thomasville, and Grove Hill, urging immediate action to ensure safety as significant impacts are expected.
Dangerous winds of equivalent strong tropical storm force, with peak gusts up to 40 mph and potential for 58 to 73 mph, are anticipated. Residents must complete all efforts to protect life and property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Expect significant wind damage, including potential damage to roofs, siding, and outbuildings. Unsecured objects may become dangerous projectiles, and mobile homes, especially unanchored ones, are vulnerable. Roads may become impassable due to large debris, and scattered power outages are likely.
While no storm surge inundation is forecast, and tornadoes are not expected, major flooding rain is a significant concern. Additional rainfall of around 1 inch is forecast, with the potential for extensive flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
