Clarke County residents, including those in Jackson, Thomasville, and Grove Hill, must complete all preparations for dangerous tropical storm force winds immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, issued a Tropical Storm Warning today, October 9, at 6:53 PM CDT, effective until 3:00 AM CDT on October 10.

Significant wind damage is expected with peak gusts up to 50 mph. Potential impacts include damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes, as well as snapped or uprooted trees and impassable roads due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are also possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Up to an additional 1 inch of rain is forecast, with potential for major flooding. This may prompt evacuations and rescues, with rivers overflowing and floodwaters entering structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.

No storm surge or tornadoes are expected. For local information, contact Clarke County EMA at 251-275-8775 or visit clarkecountyal.com/emergency-management. For additional storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
