Mail Addressed to the Deceased - How to Stop or Forward Mail

Mail Addressed to the Deceased - How to Stop or Forward Mail After loved ones pass, you can stop mail from being sent to their addresses. Learn how to file a proper request at the Post Office to redirect their mail or remove them from advertising lists. Advertising – Do Not Contact List The Data & Marketing Association maintains a Deceased Do Not Contact List (DDNC). Within 3 months of registering the deceased's name with DDNC, advertising mail should decrease. Register on DMAchoice.org If You Shared an Address If you shared a mailing address with someone who has died and continue to receive that mail, you have several options: - You may open and manage the deceased's mail as needed. - You may forward all of the deceased's mail to a different address. - You may forward a single piece of mail, for example, to an appointed executor, without going to a Post Office location. To forward the single mailpiece: Neatly cross out your address. Print "Forward to" and the new address on the front of the envelope. Leave the envelope in your mailbox for carrier pickup, drop it off in a blue collection box, or take it to a Post Office lobby drop. If You Have a Different Address To forward the deceased's mail to yourself or to a different address, you must go to a Post Office location to submit a change of address request. You will need to: Provide documented proof that you are the appointed executor or administrator authorized to manage the deceased's mail (Simply having their death certificate is not enough). Complete a change of address request in person.

City Explains How Hallandale Beach Budget Dollars Are Allocated

Did you know your water bill doesn't fund police services—and your property taxes don't pay for water treatment? It's one of the most common misconceptions about local government finances. When people think about the City budget, it's easy to imagine one giant bank account where all money goes in and all expenses come out. But in reality, local government budgeting is much more like a network of pipes, each carrying funding to different services and projects throughout the community.Understanding how those dollars flow helps explain how Hallandale Beach delivers the services residents rely on every day.Think of It Like a Household BudgetMost families don't keep all of their money in one envelope. You may have money set aside for groceries, utilities, savings, vacations, or home repairs. While all of those dollars belong to the household, they're often designated for different purposes. The City's budget works in a similar way. Some revenue sources are intended to support general City services, while others are collected specifically to operate and maintain systems such as water, sewer, sanitation, and stormwater infrastructure. That means not every dollar can be used for every purpose.Property Taxes Help Fund Everyday ServicesProperty taxes are one of the City's primary sources of revenue and help support many of the services residents use every day. These services include:Public safetyParks and recreation programsCommunity servicesRoadway maintenanceNeighborhood improvementsAdministrative and customer service functionsThese are the services that help keep Hallandale Beach safe, functional, and vibrant.Your Water Bill Supports Water and Sewer ServicesWhen you pay your water bill, those funds help operate and maintain the City's utility system. That includes:Delivering clean drinking waterMaintaining water mains and pipesOperating water treatment facilitiesMaintaining sewer infrastructureInvesting in future utility improvementsThese funds stay focused on supporting the utility services residents and businesses depend on every day.Stormwater Fees Help Protect Against FloodingSouth Florida residents know how important drainage systems are, especially during heavy rainfall.Stormwater fees help fund the maintenance and improvement of the City's drainage infrastructure, including pipes, pumps, canals, and other systems designed to move water away from neighborhoods and roadways. These investments help improve drainage performance, reduce flooding impacts, and strengthen community resilience.Grants Help Stretch Local Dollars FurtherNot every project is funded solely through local taxes or fees. The City actively pursues grant opportunities and outside funding sources that help support infrastructure improvements, transportation projects, environmental initiatives, and other community investments. When grant funding is secured, it helps stretch local dollars further and allows more projects to move forward without placing the entire cost on residents. Over the past several years, Hallandale Beach has secured millions of dollars in grant funding to help advance important projects throughout the community. Why This MattersThe next time you visit a park, turn on your faucet, drive on a City street, ride public transit, or see crews maintaining drainage systems, remember that those services may all be provided by the City—but they're often funded through different revenue sources. Understanding how those dollars work together helps residents better understand why certain fees exist, how services are funded, and how the City plans for the future.Because understanding how your city works matters.Want to Learn More?Residents can explore budget documents, financial reports, and additional resources by visiting the City's Budget and Program Monitoring webpage and Transparency Portal. Stay tuned for the next article in our Behind the Budget series, where we'll answer another commonly asked question:What is a millage rate, and how does it affect your property tax bill?
